How-To: DIY placemats

Turn plain, woven placemats into fun, bright décor with these easy steps. You don’t have to go hunting for those specific patterns and colours, choose colours you love. Simply pick up a British Paints 250ml sample pot and get painting!

Step One

First choose your colours, try to keep to a maximum of three so you have simple continuity across each placemat. For this project, we have chosen British Paints French Bow, Naturalist and Montage. Find a patter you love and trace it onto each placemat (try changing it up for each one) and then you’re ready to use your tape.

Step Two

Outline each pattern with tape to ensure you are happy with each design. For these patterns, we have chosen different geometric triangles.

Step Three

Now you’re ready to paint! Apply the first coat to each placemat and allow to dry for at least 20 minutes before applying the second coat.

Tip: Apply a thin coat of British Paints Paint & Prime SprayEasy Clear to protect your paint project.

Step Four

Once you’ve waited at least 24 hours you can now style and use your placemats!

Use for your tables or style individually with candles and pot plants for a unique look.
