The six tools you need to get started

Get your project started properly with the right tools. Remember, Bunnings Warehouse team members are always available in-store to help.

Ladders

A good stepladder is a must. Try finding one with a flat top or clip tray that will help hold tools and paint cans, giving you an extra hand free to ensure safety.

Drop Sheets

Light canvas or calico sheets are easy to work with and last.  Light plastic sheets are inexpensive and best used only for covering furniture as they’re slippery and don’t absorb paint.

Rags

A good supply of the right rags will help you clean up as you go. For water-based paints use a damp rag, and moisten your rag with turpentine for oil-based paints.

Scrapers & Knives

You’ll find a range of scrapers during a quick look around your local Bunnings Warehouse. The two main ones to look out for are:
Putty Knife
A small bladed knife that makes filling cracks and small holes easier.
Shave Hook
A triangular scraper blade with a handle, that’s often available in either straight or curved blades. Good for curved moldings and energetic stripping. If you're doing exterior work you’ll also need sugar soap and either a brass wire brush or stiff bristle brush.
