Create your own DIY shelf

Personalise a simple shelf by adding a pop of colour to its surface. Not only is this a great way to express your unique style, it will also help to brighten up your home. Get creative by exploring various styles and patterns. Whether you prefer a simple look or something more elegant, your options are wide open – so feel free to experiment!

Step One

For this project we chose a shelf that came dismantled so it was easy to paint the back without making a mess or using any protective tape. You’ll also need a ruler and pencil to mark our any shapes you want to include.

Step Two

Trace out your pattern on the back using a grey lead pencil and apply tape along those lines to ensure you have a clean, straight finish.

 

Note: for this project we used British Paints Home Grown for a bright, fun feel.

Step Three

Ensure you apply two coats for a smooth finish. Your shelf will be ready to be assembled the next day.
