Sometimes, it might even feel like a workout – which (though we hate to break it to you) means you’re not doing it quite right, but don’t stress, we’re here to help!
Start by investing in a good paint roller. The quality of your materials will have a significant impact on the result of your finish. Monarch paint rollers are fantastic and are widely available from your local Bunnings. The Monarch 12mm Medium Nap Roller is great for ceilings and walls and retails for $15.98*.
Once you’ve got your materials ready to go, it’s time to start the project. Here’s a step-by-step guide to achieving the best results:
1. If you’re starting with a bare drywall ceiling, prime it first to avoid ending up with an uneven finish. Begin with British Paints®’ PREP 4in1™ Water Based product as it combines the functions of a sealer, primer, undercoat and stain blocker all in one. If the ceiling has been previously painted, skip the primer and give it a quick clean and sand to prepare the surface properly.
2. Once you’re ready to go, it’s time to get that posture right. Your feet should be shoulder width apart. Start from the front and move backwards.
3. Always keep the roller tray in front of you so you don’t waste time walking back and forth. When loading the roller, make sure you apply enough paint to cover the entire roller, you’ll tire more easily when you don’t use enough paint.
4. When you paint, go from left to right in an M shape, but make sure your arms don’t lift up past your shoulders when painting – this will help avoid any aches and pains at the end of the day.
5. Once you’re done with each section, make sure to lay off the paint by doing a light pressure movement from left to right to make sure the paint is applied evenly.
It’s pretty simple once you get the technique down pat. You just need to make sure you’ve got enough paint on your roller and your posture is correct.
Trust us, you’ll find your groove in no time so stop putting it off, it’s time to get started.
